I remember the first time I was introduced with the Exterior Inhabitants Agency, the EIA.
It was another beautiful day, my 900th birthday to be precise, making it my coming of age day. A great day for every elf, especially for the son of the king. For on from this day onward, I am legally allowed to become king if my father resignes or dies of unnatural causes (Let's just hope he doesn't).
The morning started with a good walk across the Crystal Plains, where I was joined by my good friend Elya. I must admit I have some feelings for her, even though she is 54 years younger than me. We always share everything with eachother, even our deepest thoughts and feelings, so she knows. We decided not to start anything, because it might ruin our friendship if we're to hasty. We walked and talked together for 2 hours, than I returned to the palace for my lessons. Basic history, physics and astronomy lessons. Us elves can learn extremely large amounts of information at a time, so in one lesson I get the amount of stuff a human gets in one year at school. After those I had swordfighting and bowshooting lessons, for basic war preperation.
I am outside now, in the Brimming Gardens, which surround the Shining Palace, practising some basic swordfighting with my younger brother Asong Dramedes. As you might've noticed, our first name is our family name, and our last is our personal title. 'I'll defeat you this time, Delanas!' Dramedes yells, waving his ornamental scimitar at me. I, being the older and more experienced, calmly fence him off. 'You've got to try a little better than this, Junior' I said, provoking him. He really hates it when I call him Junior. Scrambling up, he shouts 'don't you dare!' and attacks again, and this time more wildly. I step aside and watch him fall to the ground in his rage. 'Remember, kid, don't let emotions interfere with your swordfighting.' 'Oh shut up, your not my teacher!' he says, patting the crystal dust off his robes. 'I could've been' I say, smirking. 'Don't worry, Dram, you'll learn it. Two hundred years from now and you'll be my age, it's not that long, and then you'll be at my level, I'm sure. You've got talent, you know.' 'Heh, thanks Deli, I'll keep it in mind while practising' He says with a grin.
Suddenly I hear a call from behind me. 'Delanas! Your father needs you!' It's my mother, Asong-Entel Kylia. Entel is her maiden name. She walks towards us and gives us both a brief hug before saying: 'He said it was urgent. You'd better hurry my boy.' 'What is it about then?' 'That's a surprise, now run along, don't keep him waiting!' 'Yes mother, I'll see you later!' I yell while running inside. I run through the corridors, across the central hall, up the stairs, and into the throne room.
Entering the room, I see my father rising up. There he stands with his 336.000 years of age, the High Elfin King of Santharion. 'Ah, my dear boy, there you are!' he says with his deep, carrying voice. 'Glad you made it in time, my son. Walk with me.' We continued through the corridor east of the Throne Room. 'My Lord... father... where are we going?' I ask, bursting with anticipation. 'Depends on where this conversation goes.' He answeres. 'It's a big day for you, Delanas, you have become of age. Nine hundred years ago you were born, and you were a gift for me. I have looked forward to this day since then, for this is the day we'll find out how much you are like me. Let me ask: how do you see your future?' 'Well erhm... I think I'm going to become king one day' My father laughs 'One day, my boy, one day. But that might take another one hundred thousand years. In the meantime you need something to do. Do you want to see the universe, or do you want to stay here, in the Santharion, and become a craftsman or a soldier? It's your choice.' 'Well, if I had the chance' I say 'I'd love to see a bit of the universe. I've learned so much, but I want to see it myself now.' 'All right then, son, then we have to turn left here.' He always does that, knowing when everything happens. I've always thought he had a gift of foresight. We walk down a long flight of stairs, and we end up in a part of the dungeons I haven't been before. He opens a door that is hidden as a wall, and we continue through an underground tunnel. At the end of the tunnel we approach a door with a large lock on it. 'Father, what are we doing here?' I ask. He turns and looks me in the eye with a look of exitement and says 'We are going to train you, my boy, to be a wonderful Elfin Agent' and with these words he turns the key.
